Camdyn's Surgery

Today my little chub had surgery at Sacred Heart Children's Hospital. We checked in at 8:00 a.m. and they prepped her for the umbilical hernia repair. I was pretty nervous about how she would respond to the anesthesia, etc. About an hour after they took her into surgery the doctor came out and said that she did really well. That the hernia was just what she had expected and it was easily closed with sutures. They did have to try 5 times to get an IV in. (I guess they couldn't find a vein through the fat! Luckily, she was already asleep for that.) We were then brought back to the recovery room to see her. She was still asleep and she looked beautiful. She woke up shortly after we arrived and wanted me to hold her. She seemed a little dazed, but downed a bottle of apple juice very quickly. She seems to be doing well. She is in some pain, but I am trying to keep her dosed well with the pain medication. Her doctor thinks that her recovery will be quick. She will have to stay bandaged for 2 weeks and then we'll have a post-op appointment. The trick will be keeping her comfortable over the next few days. I wanted to take pictures to show her when she gets older..."You were so brave!"

Yeah Camdyn!!!! I'm glad things went well. I had a similar surgery when I was young, and I recovered well and managed to live a relatively normal life (any abnormalities have been due to factors other than the surgery). :)

It's always scary to see little ones in the hospital. I'm glad your beautiful little thing handled it well. Lots of love, prayers, and happy thoughts from Alaska!

I am so glad that things went well!! It is hard to see your little ones go through that. Sorry we missed you the other day.
